The monument was installed in 1967 in the Arecibo Government Centerthanks to the efforts of the “John F. Kennedy Statue Organizing Committee”, chaired by Mr. Julio Rodriguez Toro. However, with the passage of time, the statue found a new home in the intersection of Avenida José de Diego and Avenida Luis Llorens TorresToday it stands proudly overlooking the waters that have witnessed countless voyages.

This sculpture represents not only the hard work of the fishermen, but also their ability to overcome adversity. In 2023, the bronze plaque containing the monument's dedication was stolen, generating great indignation among the community. However, thanks to the efforts of the authorities and citizens, the piece was recovered and restored, giving the monument back its dignity and meaning.
